Escherichie Coli

Escherichia Coli, a bacteria which is abbreviated & generally known as EColi, is one of the common causes of food contamination the world over. Ecoli colonize in morphological structures having various strains available in Fruits, Vegetables, Milk, Water, Meat Products etc. Most Ecoli strains do not pose any risk for humans but some of the strains could be dangerous for humans.

EColi is a normal inhabitant of the intestines in human & animals and plays important role for the functioning of the human body. E.Coli and its human host coexist and most of the strains are not harmful for human health. Over the years E.Coli has evolved into a dangerous strain because of acquiring virulent behaviours and caused damages to human beings. Only the most successful combinations of virulent factors made them into some dangerous E.Coli strains that are capable of causing diseases in humans.

Ecoli pathogens can cause diseases like gastrointestinal illness, enteric/diarrhoeal disease, urinary tract infections and sepsis/meningitis, hemolytic uremic syndrome. During past one year, there have been various instances where many states in the US had recalled the entire stock of Salads and Wraps due to the contamination of Ecoli and plenty of people became victims of this bacteria.

Some pathogenic prototypes of Ecoli as per the international standards:

* Verocytotoxigenic E.Coli (VTEC)
* Enterotoxigenic E.Coli (ETEC)
* Enteroinvasive E.Coli (EIEC)
* Enteropathogenic E.Coli (EPEC)
* Enteroaggregative E.Coli (EaggEC)
* Diffusely adherent E.Coli (DAEC)
* Uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC)

The Food Safety and Standards Regulations, 2011, has defined standards for the analysis and testing of food articles for micro organisms. It is important that every food business operator has to get his food articles tested before the product is finally available for sale in the market.

We have a professional team of scientists who are experts in testing & identification of foodbourne pathogens. We have a comprehensive range of equipments and our testing services include national & international methods & techniques for the identification of Ecoli and others.

We follow IS-5887 for the identification of the presence of Ecoli in a food item.

The laboratory has been identified as one of the top 5 laboratories and is accredited by NABL, FSSAI, BIS, CDSCO, ISM&H, APEDA, EIC/EIA, AGMARK.
