Milk is considered to be one of the best nutritional elements all over world, especially for infants and young children. Parents are advised by the doctors to feed their young ones with milk initially and later on with other food items. In fact mother’s milk is the first and only meal given to new born. 

But as like the case with other food sources, milk has also got some allergens in its components which can cause adverse effects on human health. Milk allergy is a food allergy which can cause serious immune problems which is quite common in children. According to a survey report, 1.6%-2.8% of children younger than two years of age suffer from milk allergies.

There are almost a dozen of proteins in milk and a person can be vulnerable to any of these proteins. The most common allergen in milk is Alpha S1-casein. The allergy caused by this allergen can result in stomach disorder, loose motions, skin problems, gastric problems, nausea, vomiting and so on. Usually milk allergies are quite common and easily curable but sometimes they can be life threatening.

That is why it is advisable to the FBOs involved in packaging of milk and milk products to test their packaged food and complete information should be given on the label. As per the FSSAI guidelines if the packaged food does not contain label or wrong specification on the label, it can be banned to sale.
